Hurray For Coffee- It Is All In Fun!
Written By Coleen Lou
I always thought I just drank coffee to be able
to pry my eyelids open in the morning! Well, according to a study which found that coffee drinking might reduce your risk of type 2 Diabetes, I guess I can now relax and drink my morning French Vanilla roast and feel good about myself. Ahhh…life is good sometimes. I can now state with pride that I drink my cup of java for my health. It is a commitment and sacrifice that I make to be a better and yes healthier person. Oh yeah, that is because without it I might jump into mother demand overload and turn into a Joan Crawford clone, followed by a nervous breakdown!
Of course, type 2 Diabetes is a serious disease and has reached epidemic proportions in the industrialized world. More than 17 million people in the United States and more than 150 million worldwide have the disease, which is caused by a chronic, toxic excess of sugar in the blood due to a lack of insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas.
Just a little guess here, or shall I say “hypothesis,” since we are delving into the world of science and scholars, but the fact that coffee may be
of help might have something to do with the fact that when you drink all that caffeine, you are so “wired” that you are ready for a straight jacket and buzz around all day burning off any glucose that may be in the body. Therefore, you do not have to worry about any excess sugar in the body accumulating from lack of insulin.
Well, regardless of the reason, at least I know that when I wake up at 6:30 am and have my freshly brewed, piping-hot java on a cold winter morning, I am doing the right thing! And hey, that is important to me.
